Can you explain how to straighten hair step-by-step?

I'm 14 and I've never straighten my hair myself before. It's very difficult to straighten and when I go to a salon it takes 3-4 hours and only lasts 3-4 hours. I am going to use a CHI.

Please explain step by step. Include how to blowdry hair b/c I haven't ever done that either, LOL :) I have curly hair and I think I need something called a diffuser? Sorry, I am totally confused when it comes to styling hair!!

You don't need a diffuser to straighten your hair, only to blow it dry when you are keeping it curly. A diffuser allows the heat of the dryer to get through but cuts back on the wind part so your curls do not separte and get frizzy.

Here is what i do to straighten: The most important thing is to get a good straightening product. Without it you will enver get super straight and shiny hair. I like Crazy straight from beverly hills or i have heard that both redken and herbal essences straightening products work well. Put the product in when your hair is damp and make sure it is all coated. clip your hair up in the back and only dry on section at a time (about 1-2 inches across). You can either use a flat brush with holes under the brissles or a large round brush with a metal core. Comb through the section and hook the brush near your scalp, then put tension on your hair so it is pulled tight and straight and follow the brush down the section with the dryer. Make sure the air is pointing down the hair section to stop little pieces from flying up and getting frizzy! You will probably have to repeat this on each section a few times until it is totally dry. Do you whole head this way. The get the small hairs near your forehead brush them straight back and pull and angle the dryer toward the back of your head.

After all your hair is dry you will need to use a straightening iron to get it smooth. Section the hair off the same way as when you blow dry. Clamp the iron at the top of the section as clsoe to your scalp as you can and pull it down over the section in one sweep. If you stop half way down you will creases. Continue this until you are satisfied with how straight it is. Finish it off with a shine spray.

I don't bother to straighten mine if the weather is humid becasue no matter what it won't stay straight! The first few times you do it it will take a LONG time to straighten until you get the hang of how to do it.

My friend has one of those straighteners (wet to straight?) that you use directly when the hair is wet. She says it works great but it must be really bad for your hair.

Ok, well my friend has the same exact problem, too. If you want to get your hair straightned and you have that kind of hair your going to have to have more than one person helping you, so it doesn't take as long.

So here is step by step -------%26gt;

1. Get this type of cream, from target or a drugstore, it will say "helps stop demanging hair while hair straightening"

2. Next comb it through your hair =)

3. Turn you hair straightener on, and let it heat up for a couple miniutes.

4. Next, take a little of your hair (several strands) pull it away from you

4. With one hand still holding your strand of hair, and in the other the straightner.

5. Next squease on the hands so they open up, put the two "claps" in your hair and pull down

and just keep doing that =)

First you need a good straightening balm, try Bed Head, it's expensive, but if you can afford a CHI, you can afford this stuff. After you showered, smooth it on your hair.

Then comb your hair with a fine toothed comb.

A diffuser is something you put on the end of a hairdryer that helps spread the air flow from the dryer. Attach the diffuser and blow dry your hair slowly and on a low setting (to avoid frizz). Make sure while you are drying your hair to comb it straight starting at the roots.

When your hair is completely dry, use the straightener on a medium-high setting. Make sure to start at the underside of your hair first, getting the bottom layers straight before moving to the top layers. ALWAYS start at the root of the hair with small groups of hair, not big chunks.

Be patient, it might take a while to get a hang of, but when you do, it's fun! :) Good luck!

Hi, I know how you felt, I started straightening my hair at the age of 10.

I also have a Chi, they are great straighteners!

First you are going to need a heat protection gel so your hair doesn't become damaged.

This is how I straighten my hair,

put your hair up in two sections. Section off the top and the bottom. Blow dry the bottom first then blow dry the top. I suggest a oil for your hair, it makes the frizz go away. Make sure that your hair is dry before straightening it.

You might want to get some clips for your hair, trust me it helps while straightening. Then you straighten the bottom layer first, then the top. While you are straightening use a brush. The best type of brush for curly and frizzy hair is a paddle brush.

I hope I was of some help!

Hi, I am a hair stylist. Girl you are going to have fun. A diffuser is an attachment that goes on your blow dryer. Basically it is air drying your hair. It evenly distributes the air to your air and it is much healthier than just blow drying all of the time. Conditioner your hair after you shampoo and leave it in for 3-5 minutes before you rinse it out. Dry your hair with a comb or round brush. After you dry you hair, put a heat protecting spray or lotion on your hair before you straighten it. Take your hair in small sections- start at the scalp and run the flat iron slowly down your hair to the ends. When you use your iron for the first time, put it on the lowest heat setting. After you have tried it, if it isn't hot enough turn it up. Don't start on the highest setting because you can be over doing your hair and not know it. To top it all off, use some smoothing serum to keep down fly-away. I hope this helps and feel free to contact me if you need more info.

I myself am learning also and I've really never done it before either.(I'm 13) one thing I know is if you relatively thick hair you should have a clip on hand so you can do it in layers. First do the bottom layer (with the clip holding the rest of you hair out of the way) then let you hair down and do the top layer. You may have to do it in 3 layers to begin with. Ceramic straighteners give more even heat too, so they would be best. Also, I know when my hair is straightened. it gets frizzy from the heat. You should get something to help with that. I know leave-in conditioners work well for after the straightening. There are also products to protect your hair that you put on before you straighten. Next time you go to a salon, you should ask.

Also, when you blow dry you hair you should hold the blow dyer in one hand, and hold it above you head. Point it straight down so its blowing your hair down. You should use a brush and brush you hair in the direction you want to style it in. If you want it straight, brush straight. If you want it to flip inward or outward, brush it so. I will tell you it's hard work, but you arms will get stronger after a while. Remember heat damages hair so if your hair gets frizzy, stop straightening it for a while and all ways use conditioner. I really love the Garnier Fructis system. They have so many products, you should find something to use.

Hope this helps.
