get a whole lot of layers, so that it looks more curly when you do it. it won't look weighed down. i got mine layered [i have the same kind of hair as you] and i don't even have to do that much, i just put in super skinny after i wash my hair at night, keep the towel in my hair until i go to bed, and then when i wake up it looks like i did it with a curling iron. :]
